One of the weirder modified pieces we've had come through the shop, this 1961 Les Paul/SG Standard certainly has some stories to tell.

Before we get to the modifications, this guitar is a joy to play. The neck is super but very comfortable in the hand and the action is set super low and even all the way up the fingerboard.

Onto the less than great news: firstly, the sideways Vibrola was removed and a stop bar tailpiece with gold posts was installed, it has had some fractures in the heel area but everything is 100% solid now, and its had the usual crack between the knobs.

Sadly someone robbed the original PAF pickups from this example, but the original pots remain save for the neck volume control.

The biggest change is obviously the fingerboard, which has been replaced with a slab of ebony and extended to accommodate 24 frets. Aside from being a questionable decision, the work was done very well and the guitar plays phenomenally well.

What appears to be the original nut has been shimmed up to adjust for the extra height from the new fingerboard and frets.

Other vintage parts include: Gibson branded Kluson deluxe double-line/double ring tuners, original pickguard, vintage ABR-1 bridge, original knobs, vintage strap buttons, and a Gibson T-Top pickup in the neck position.

  • Nut width: 1.72"
  • Neck depth @ first fret: .79"
  • Neck depth at 12th: .82"
  • Weight: 6lbs 8.2oz

Comes with a later Gibson hardshell case. Feel free to reach out with any questions or for more pictures about this very interesting vintage Les Paul/SG!
